Massage therapy is a great way we can help keep our horses in the best possible condition, alleviating the inevitable aches, pains, and stresses, which come as part of living in limited spaces like stables, and having a ridden/working lifestyle.
Equine massage and bodywork is complimentary to chiropractic, physio, veterinary and osteopathic treatments.
I use a range of techniques and therapies in my practice so that I can ensure each session is appropriate for the horse I am treating, meaning even nervous or sensitive characters can be catered for. .
All my charges include travel where clients are within 40 mile radius/ 1 hour total driving time (whichever is closer) of Stokenchurch, Buckinghamshire (HP14).
I am happy to discuss travelling further/ to areas impacted more by traffic volumes (i.e. inside the M25) however there may be a small fee added to cover the extra cost. Please get in touch to discuss if this is you.
Merishia Massage combines soft and deep tissue massage, fascia release, stretches and mobilisation of the neck, back and limbs. This range of techniques allows practitioners to treat every animal as an individual, based on an assessment of their needs.
It has evolved to incorporate a number of gentle and very effective techniques which are based on biomechanics and Swedish massage and which are an excellent way of maintaining your horse's health and wellbeing.
Merishia massage can improve movement, relieve pain, support recovery from injury, complement vet treatment, support maintenance, ease stress and encourage relaxation making it a wonderful and highly beneficial type of treatment.
I am have a UK Rural Skills level 4 diploma in Merishia Massage. In addition I do continuous professional development, am a member of the Association of Merishia Therapists, and as such do a number of continued professional development hours every year, increasing my skills and the different therapies which I apply holistically.
Every session is bespoke to the horse; I ask all new clients for a detailed "history" before the first session, and strongly recommend they get their vet's "ok" for any/every massage session to go ahead (there are a very small number of conditions where massage would not be appropriate e.g. Lymphangitis)
It's important to state that no massage therapist can diagnose a problem; all I can tell you is what I can see in terms of any movement disfunction (and I can share that with you so you can pass it to your vet).
I list my prices on this but essentially I charge per horse, not per hour and there are discounts available if you bulk-buy sessions or book for multiple horses at the same yard.
I aim to always do a basic movement assessment and chat through the history you've provided, understand your aims/ambitions for your horse and explore any previous conditions/injuries (etc) and sometimes look at tack-fit.
Please (please) where possible could you ensure that your horse is ready, clean (not wet and mud-caked as a minimum) and fed (if near dinner time) when I arrive. Hungry horses do not settle well - especially if all their pals are eating!- and wet mud will just make them (and me) pretty uncomfortable!
